Program Overview

Anchorage Montessori School has two full day and two half day classrooms at the primary level. The Primary Program is for children ages 3-6 years old. Having multi-age grouping allows children to build strong connections with their peers, encourages learning collaboration and allows older children to reinforce their knowledge by guiding the younger students. Each classroom environment is organized, peaceful and gives the child the opportunity for growth and development of new skills such as order, concentration, coordination and independence. Children are provided with a multitude of hands-on materials in the following subject areas; Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Cultural, Science and Art. Children have the freedom to move within their environment, interact with peers and choose what materials to explore during the three hour work cycle.

We have a strong, dedicated primary staff who are trained to create a supportive and nurturing environment for the children. All lead teachers hold a Montessori credential for the level in which they teach. The lead observes the students, creating individualized lesson plans based on the needs and interests of the child so they are constantly learning, mastering new concepts as well as keeping the child engaged in their work. The teacher's purpose is to serve the child, to meet their needs and free them to reach their full potential.
